Welcome to Castro Valley

Castro Valley is a quiet bedroom community in unincorporated Alameda County. Homeowners who live here love the ease of commute as Castro Valley is intersected by Highways 580, 880, and 232. BART and AC Transit make it a “hop, skip or jump" to just about anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Lake Chabot and Lake Chabot Regional Park make up part of Castro Valley's northern border. The 315-acre lake provides fishing and boating year-round and is popular with families. Lake Chabot Regional Park offers over 20 miles of hiking trails that connect to the 70 miles of trails in adjacent Anthony Chabot Regional Park.

The Lake Chabot bicycle loop covers about 12 miles via the Live Oak Trail and 14 miles via the Honker Bay Trail. Various trails in Lake Chabot Regional Park provide access to the Skyline National Trail north of the lake in Anthony Chabot Regional Park.

Situated between the two parks is Lake Chabot Golf Course, a top-rated public course in Oakland.

There are several horse ranches dotting Palomares Canyon with access to regional trails. In fact, cowboys from miles away come every year for the Rowell Ranch Rodeo, which is approaching its 100th year. Even those that don’t ride love the activities surrounding the annual event, especially the Rodeo Parade.

Castro Valley is served by Castro Valley Unified School District. The district includes nine elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. The California Department of Education named Castro Valley Unified as one of its California Exemplary Districts.
